Building because I can.. not always to save money
Often times I build things or tackle projects for my home to save a significant amount of money. I have saved thousands over the past couple of years by completing projects such as remodeling my kids rooms and building a dining room table.
Although the cost savings is a huge driver for tackling any project, it is not the only reason. Just as often I build something simply because I can. There is something that makes me feel more at home when I am surrounded by projects I’ve built with my own two hands. I will admit its nice to get a complement on one of my projects, but the idea of my family using something I’ve build day in and day out brings me satisfaction on a primal level. It satisfies my urge to provide for my family.
I just finished building my son a rocking horse for his 1st birthday which I could have easily purchased for half the cost it took me to build it… but I like the idea of him being able to pass it down to his children in 30 years.
